Male cyclist struck & killed in Mississauga

A male cyclist has died after being struck by a van in Mississauga.

It happened at Central Parkway West and Mavis Road in Mississauga just after 8 a.m. on Friday.

The victim is believed to be a man in his 60s.

Peel police Const. Fiona Thivierge said he didn’t have vital signs when emergency crews arrived on the scene and was rushed to hospital, where he died a short time later.

The driver remained at the scene. No charges have been laid yet.

Police spoke to witnesses and collected video from the area.

Police said it’s not yet known who had the right of way.

“At this point in time, we don’t have that information … because that has to come from witness accounts of what happened,” Thivierge said.

“The van was turning and the cyclist was going straight, but who had the green or red, we don’t have that information as of yet.”

The area was closed off to motorists for the collision investigation but has since reopened.
