Hundreds of people rallied downtown Sunday afternoon to show support for Christians facing persecution in Iraq.
The demonstrators gathered at Front and Bay streets before making their way to Queen’s Park. They say they want to draw attention to the estimated 100,000 Christians in Iraq who have been forced to abandon their homes to escape Islamic militants.
Organizers of the rally say the Christians are being persecuted because of their faith.
The rally was organized by various Christian churches, which asked that people from all religions show their support for Christians in Iraq.
The demonstrators planned to submit a letter to the Canadian and Iraqi governments asking that Christians in Iraq be protected or be allowed to seek refuge outside their country.
