Canadian victim of alleged Paris police rape to need psychiatrist help: father

The father of a Canadian woman who alleges she was raped by several Paris police officers says his daughter will need to seek psychiatric help.

Speaking to the French media outlet Europe1, the man also says he had hoped for more support from Canadian authorities and that he was hurt by the attitude of Canada’s embassy in France.

The report, however, does not elaborate on these remarks.

Two officers from an elite, SWAT-like police unit are under a formal investigation based on the Toronto woman’s allegations she was raped at their Paris headquarters.

The report says the father declined to discuss the matter further, saying he would only reveal more in front of a court.

The French media outlet says it met the father Monday in the Toronto area, where he is a veteran police officer.

“My daughter will have to see many psychiatrists,” Europe1 quoted him as saying.

The woman’s name has not been made public.

A third police officer is considered an “assisted witness,” positioning the individual between a regular witness and a suspect.

All three officers implicated in the case have been suspended from their jobs pending the results of the ongoing investigation.

French media have reported a 34-year-old Canadian tourist met the off-duty officers in a bar last week and that she later accompanied them to their storied police headquarters, which has been compared to Britain’s Scotland Yard.

A lawyer for one of the suspects has told The Canadian Press the sex was consensual.
