BT & CityNews team up for Daily Bread spring food drive

Breakfast Television and CityNews joined the Daily Bread Food Bank for its spring food drive on Wednesday morning.

The drive kicked off on April 2 and will run until April 26. Daily Bread is hoping to collect $225,000 and 225,000 pounds of nutritious food.

Frank Ferragine and Jennifer Valentyne were at the Loblaws at 380 East Mall, near Highway 427 and Burnhamthorpe Road, to collect donations.

Those who donated in-person could also enter a grand prize draw for a trip for two to Ireland valued at $5,000.

“The spring drive is one of most important drives, because it keeps food banks stocked throughout the summer,” Gail Nyberg, Daily Bread’s executive director, said in a statement.

“In the past few weeks, some of our member agencies have shut their doors early because there simply isn’t enough food to meet demand. We need to fill those shelves, so nobody is ever turned away. And we need your help to do it.”

The most needed items include:

  • pasta
  • dried/canned beans or lentils
  • rice
  • canned fruit and vegetables
  • baby formula and food
  • tomato sauce
  • peanut butter
  • canned tuna/meat
  • powdered milk

Cash donations are also welcome. Every dollar donated means Daily Bread can provide $5 worth of food.

Financial donations can be made easily and securely online at www.dailybread.ca or by mailing a cheque to Daily Bread Food Bank, 191 New Toronto St., Toronto, ON, M8V 2E7.

Donations can also be made by texting “CITY” to 647-496-MEAL.
