$50K reward offered in North York girl’s 1972 murder

York Region police are offering a $50,000 reward in a renewed push to find the killer of a 16-year-old girl murdered more than four decades ago.
A passerby found Yvonne Leroux’s body along 16th Sideroad between Keele and Jane streets in King City on Nov. 30, 1972. She had died from blunt force trauma to the head.
“It’s on my mind 24 hours a day,” said Yvonne’s father Gerry Leroux, 83.
“I don’t know what I would do, really, but I would like to see justice done.”
The night before her body was found, Yvonne was seen leaving a clinic on Oakdale Road — now the Humber River Hospital — near Finch Avenue West and Highway 400.
“Hopefully somebody who wasn’t able to come forward back in 1972-73 is able to come forward now,” said Det. Joe Amato-Gauci.
Although the teen’s body was discovered in King City, she lived and worked in North York.
“Yvonne was working at place in Rexdale called Garett Manufacturing,” Det. Rosa Sposato said.
“She did use the name Linda Jessop at the time to get the job because she was so young. So there may be people out there who know her as Linda Jessop.”
“Please, don’t be afraid. Just call,” Leroux said.
“They’ll get that guy because I know they are determined to do so.”
The reward is in effect until March 27, 2015.
