A nine-year-old boy has died after he was found in a collapsed snow fort on Wednesday.
The boy, identified as Zachary, was playing in his backyard when the fort collapsed sometime around 3:30 p.m. His mother was able to dig him out and she performed CPR until the ambulance arrived.
He was rushed to Headwaters Hospital, where he later died.
Zachary was a Grade 4 student at a elementary school in Orangeville.
Orangeville Coun. Jeremy Williams said in a Facebook post on Thursday that Zachary was a “wonderful, cheerful boy who was full of happiness and light.”
Ontario Provincial Police Const. Paul Nancekivell told CityNews emergency crews were called to a home on County Road 11, in the Township of Amaranth.
No other details will be released as the OPP investigate.
A similar tragedy took place last month in Winnipeg where a nine-year-old boy was buried under a fallen snowbank outside his home. He died in hospital three days later.
