Latest search for missing Whitby man turns up empty

There’s still no sign of missing Whitby teacher Jeffrey Boucher after the latest search effort on Monday.

Durham regional police said it was a “routine” investigation.

Officers with the Toronto police marine unit were once again involved in the search at the Whitby Pier; however, after scouring the water for several hours, they did not find anything.

Toronto police have an underwater search robot with camera capabilities that can be operated remotely and allow officers to search the water from the shore.

The investigation into Boucher’s disappearance still remains “active and open,” Durham police Sgt. Nancy van Rooy told 680News on Monday afternoon.

“It has been three weeks since his disappearance … and we have not found a trace of Jeffrey Boucher. There have been a lot of investigative avenues that we have followed up on, but to date, nothing concrete or evidentiary that has led us to what became of him or what was happened to him,” she said.

Durham police also conducted a ground search, which also did not turn up anything.

The marine unit was also involved in a search on Jan. 24, but it was called off due to weather.

No boats were used on the water during the search, police said.

Boucher, 52, is believed to have gone missing after heading out for a morning run on Jan. 13. However, his family last saw him the day before, on Jan. 12. Police and volunteers have been searching for him since.

There is nothing in Boucher’s background that is unusual, police said. Boucher is a teacher at Bowmanville High School and is married with two daughters. Police have said they simply don’t know whether he is missing, has run away or is deceased.
