Canadian economic growth rate rises to 2.7 per cent

OTTAWA – Canada’s economic growth was stronger than expected in the third quarter.
Statistics Canada said the national gross domestic product, or GDP, grew at a 2.7 per cent annual rate, two-tenths of a point above estimates.
Compared with the second quarter, GDP was up 0.7 per cent in the three-month period ended Sept. 30 — one-tenth of a point better than expected.
September’s growth from the previous month was 0.3 per cent, also one-tenth of a point better than expected.
Following the announcement, Canada’s dollar was up 0.21 of a cent to 94.67 cents US.
