Canada-wide recall issued for Suraj-brand garlic powder

A Canada-wide recall has been issued for Suraj-brand garlic powder due to possible salmonella contamination.

There have been no reported illnesses.

Loblaw Companies Ltd. issued the recall on Tuesday after receiving test results from the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA).

The CFIA is conducting a food safety investigation, which may lead to the recall of other products.

Consumers should not consume the garlic powder described below.
Brand name: Suraj
Common name: Garlic powder
Size: 400g
UPC: 0 57197 37238 0
Additional information: Best Before 2015 AL 22

The CFIA said food tainted with salmonella may not look or smell spoiled, but can cause serious and sometimes deadly infections. Symptoms include high fever, severe headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhea and severe arthritis.
