2 arrested after incendiary device found in Entertainment District

Police say they found an incendiary device in the trunk of a car, Nov. 19, 2013

TORONTO – Toronto police have two people in custody after investigators found an incendiary device in the trunk of a car in the city’s Entertainment District, Tuesday.

Police pulled over a white Honda at around 3 a.m. at King Street West and Peter Street and found the device in a bag in the vehicle’s trunk.

A robot was used to remove the device out of the car. Bomb squad technicians placed the device on the sidewalk next to a brick building in the area and then detonated it just after 7:30 a.m.

There’s been extra police officers on patrol overnight after a series of suspected arson attacks over the past two weeks.

Police believe the two people arrested may be responsible for the fires.

King Street was closed between John Street and Spadina Avenue for the investigation, as were other side streets, but they’ve since reopened.
