Operation Raise a Flag shows thanks to Canada’s veterans

If you won’t be attending a Remembrance Day ceremony on Monday, Nov. 11, there is still a way to show your thanks to Canada’s veterans.

Operation Raise a Flag is happening now in support of Sunnybrook Hospital Veterans Centre, to recognize veterans.

A sea of flags planted on the lawn of Sunnybrook Veterans Centre, along Bayview Avenue, will appear for the veterans on Monday morning.

“Why not in the middle of the night, while they’re asleep, the evening before Veteran’s Day fill up their lawn with flags so when they wake up in the morning they get to see a sea of flags,” said Pamela Ross, a Sunnybrook Foundation spokesperson.

Flags are $25 and $50 with the proceeds going to the Veterans Comfort Fund to pay for things like community outings.

“They are two different types of flags, there is a small flag for $25 and a larger flag for $50 and you leave a message and it can be for all the vets — we get very moving messages to individuals,” Ross explains.
