Video game marathon raises money for children’s hospitals

Thousands of gamers from across North America will do what they love on Saturday to help save the lives of local children.

Extra Life, a 24-hour video gaming marathon, raises money for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.

Momin Qureshi, host of the weekly video game show Got Game on Sportsnet 590 The FAN, has taken part in the event for the last three years and says it’s a rewarding experience on many levels.

“We do it partly because patients have told us how much video games have helped them cope with their illnesses,” he explained. “But also because it’s a super fun way to raise money for an amazing cause.”

Since its inception in 2008 Extra Life has raised over $4 million for CMN hospitals across North America – with every cent going to directly to the hospital of the gamer’s choice.

Twelve children’s hospitals across Canada will receive funding raised from this event.

All the money raised in the Greater Toronto Area will go to Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Children.

Gamers can choose from a variety of game styles to spend their time with during the marathon – from console games to IOS games to tabletop RPG’s.

This year’s marathon includes an extra hour due to daylight savings time.
