Another GTA community says no to casino, OLG still looking for host

As another GTA community closes its doors to a casino, the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation won’t give up on finding a host.

The city of Vaughan has flipped from its original decision in May and is now not willing to take the gamble. However, city council must meet at the end of the month to make a final decision.

The OLG says it respects the municipal decision process and will wait until it gets a definitive direction from Vaughan at the end of the month.

No other GTA communities have come out as casino cheerleaders.

Toronto and Markham have said no, while Mississauga hasn’t put the issue on the political table to debate.

An OLG spokesman told 680News that Toronto isn’t a no-casino zone. OLG Slots at Woodbine Racetrack has been open since 2000.

The OLG says 39 communities across the province are willing to host a gaming site.

The site of the casino will be selected in 2014.
