Royal Canadian Mint to make Toronto Pan Am medals

The Royal Canadian Mint will be designing and producing the medals used in Toronto’s Pan Am and Parapan American Games in 2015.

“Every medal struck will tell a story — the story of the athlete’s success and the warm welcome they received in Toronto and the Games region in 2015,” said Pan Am organizing committee CEO Ian Troop in a statement Wednesday.

“They will be worn with pride, treasured and shared while offering a tangible reminder to everyone who sees them as a legacy of the ‘People’s Games.’”

The Mint, which made medals for the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver and the 1976 Games in Montreal, said it will produce athlete and participant medals, as well as offer coins and other promotional items.

The Mint also made medals to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Rick Hansen Man in Motion World Tour.

“The Mint is renowned for excellence, innovation and quality, and our employees are thrilled to once again deploy their skill and creativity to honour athletes whose own quest for excellence inspires us all,” Royal Canadian Mint president and CEO Ian E. Bennett said.

The designs will be publicly unveiled in spring 2015.
