Parros leaves on stretcher after slamming head on ice

MONTREAL – The opening game of the NHL season was brought to a silencing halt when Montreal Canadiens enforcer George Parros smacked his face on the ice at the end of a fight and needed to be carted off on a stretcher.
Parros dropped the gloves with Colton Orr for the second time in the game and had his arms tied up when he went face first over the Leafs tough guy and was driven into the ice.
Orr immediately signaled for medical assistance.
The Bell Centre fell silent as Parros was restrained by trainers and eventually taken off on a stretcher. He left a pool of blood behind him.
There was no immediate word on Parros’ condition.
The Habs acquired the 33-year-old in a trade with Florida over the summer in an attempt to keep pace with the other brawny teams in the realigned Atlantic Division.
The second Orr-Parros fight was the fourth of the evening.
It was the 211th fight of the veteran’s professional career, according to hockeyfights.com.
