TORONTO – A man shot and killed in Regent Park on Monday night has been identified as 31-year-old Deronn Earle of Toronto, police said.
Toronto police said Earle was ambushed and shot in the chest near an elevator in an apartment complex around 5:30 p.m. in the Queen Street East and Ontario Street area.
Police said Earle was attacked while he was standing near a fourth-floor elevator. He was not a resident of the building.
“It’s shocking. I’m very shocked. It’s hard to believe this is happening here,” a resident told 680News.
Paramedics said Earle suffered at least one gunshot wound to the chest. He was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries and later died.
Police said the only suspect is a black male and had no other details.
Earle was the city’s 45th homicide victim.
