Darryl Dahmer marks 40 years at Rogers Radio

TORONTO – The year was 1973. Work began on the CN Tower, David Crombie was mayor of Toronto, the Maple Leafs didn’t win the Stanley Cup, but airborne traffic specialist Darryl Dahmer started his incredible run providing airborne traffic reports.

Dahmer is celebrating his 40th anniversary with Rogers Radio, Tuesday.

His voice and the traffic information he provides have been a fixture in Toronto for four decades.

Many GTA drivers said Dahmer’s name is synonymous with avoiding traffic headaches, and listeners who rely on him to get to work or school are sending best wishes to Skymaster 1.

“He’s been there since I started driving when I was 16. I’m 54 now. So he’s been in all of my driving life,” one woman said.

For many drivers, Dahmer has been their trusted guide on GTA highways for hundreds of thousands of kilometres.

“Darryl Dahmer’s traffic reports got me through the city, saved me a lot of time, and made my life a lot easier,” one man said.

“Listen to you every day, you are wonderful. Keep it up,” another listener said.

Rogers is the parent company of 680News.

Below are some well-wishes from 680News listeners, as well as from his colleagues and other members of the community:
