Man rescued from Markham house fire

MARKHAM – A man trapped in the basement of a burning Markham home was rescued by firefighters early Monday morning.
He was taken to hospital where he was treated for smoke inhalation.
Firefighters were called to a house fire at Eastpine Drive in the Kennedy Road and Steeles Avenue area around 1:30 a.m.
The fire did not spread to neighbouring houses, but two houses were evacuated as a precaution.
It is not yet known how the fire began or the estimated cost of the damage.
The Fire Marshal is investigating.
