3 Aurora relatives accused of $750K gift card fraud

Three Aurora family members face a handful of criminal offences in a $750,000 gift-card fraud scheme, York regional police say.

The accused used fraudulent credit cards to purchase gift cards at major GTA retailers. The gift cards were then used to buy valuable merchandise such as TVs, furniture and jewelry.

Some of the purchased items were then stored at an Aurora home and sold online, police say.

A search warrant of the home was conducted on July 18, where a large amount of merchandise was seized. Jewelry, cash and equipment used to make ID were also seized.

Police began their investigation in June after getting several complaints from loss prevention officers who worked for retailers about the accused who had been observed buying merchandize on several occasions.

The value of the fraud is estimated at $750,000, police say.

Zeba Chaudhry, 49, Hasan Chaudhry, 21 and Waleed Chaudhry, 24, each face fraud over $5,000, fraud under $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime, use of credit card data and possession of credit card data.
