Ubisoft releases video game made in Toronto

TORONTO, Ont. – Toronto is making its mark on the video game scene, as a major video game studio released its first game, Tuesday, which is made on home turf.

Splinter Cell Blacklist was created by Ubisoft Toronto, which announced in 2010 that they were opening up shop in the GTA.

The company’s communications director, Heather Steele, says it was a long time coming.

“We had a very big ambition,” she told 680News, “to build a team at Ubisoft Toronto from scratch, develop the biggest Splinter Cell game we’ve ever made, and do that simultaneously, and that is a bit mad and yet we’re here.”

“It’s so rewarding. Honestly, it is so amazing. We’re so proud of what we’ve achieved,” she added. “It’s a big deal for us, and it’s a big deal for Toronto.”

Steele lists some of the best talent in the city for working to create the game, and help raise the profile of the Toronto video game scene.

But she says this is only the beginning.

“We are 330 people on our team now, and we’re well on our way to growing our studio to 800 with our big master plan.”
