Liberal Mitzie Hunter wins Scarborough-Guildwood

The Liberals have won the Scarborough-Guildwood riding.

Mitzie Hunter kept the seat with about 36 per cent of the votes.

“Thank you for taking that risk, thank you for putting your names on the ballot and being willing to serve the people of Ontario,” Premier Kathleen Wynne said to the candidates.

Wynne referred to the gas plant scandal.

“We lost some ridings tonight. There are fewer Liberal MPPs than there were. People expect more of us,” Wynne said. “People are angry about the gas plant issue. I totally get that. I’ve heard that.”

“Correcting the mistake that was made in the first place cost more money than it should have.”

NDP candidate and former Toronto councillor Adam Giambrone came in third after the Progressive Conservative candidate, Ken Kirupa.

Earlier, Giambrone was knocking on doors trying to get votes and said the response was positive.

“It was very favourable,” Giambrone told 680News. “People know that I’ve worked and delivered results at the TTC.”

There was a rush of voters between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. polling station workers said.
