Board of Health wants police to track number of cyclists hit by car doors

The Toronto Board of Health is recommending police start tracking the number of cyclists who get hit by the opening door of a parked car.

It’s called “dooring” and Toronto Police have not kept track of the incidents since there was a change to the definition of collisions in 2011.

The Health Board issued a report at its meeting this month.

City Councillor and Health Board Chair, Joe Mihevc said he is confident police will adopt the recommendation.

The Toronto Star reported there was an average of 144 doorings a year between 2007 and 2011.
