Omega-3 supplements linked to prostrate cancer risk: researchers

Doctors have said Omega-3 fish oil can protect against heart attacks, strokes and arthritis, but now, they have also been linked to an increased risk of prostate cancer.

According to a report in the Daily Mail, researchers in Seattle said the supplements boost the risk of low grade prostate cancer by 44 per cent and the risk of the aggressive form of the disease by 70 per cent.

Just one supplement a day or three to four meals of fish such as salmon each week could increase the risk.

They also believe high levels of Omega-3 restrict the immune system and damage human DNA, triggering tumours.

Recent studies have also questioned the health benefits of Omega-3s, such as reducing the risk of heart disease.
