Protesters congregated outside Toronto Walmart and Gap stores calling for the companies to sign an accord for Bangladesh worker safety.
The protests this weekend come in the wake of a factory collapse in April that killed more than 1,000 workers.
Both companies claim to have strong internal safety programs, but protesters are not satisfied.
CBC reported that protesters believe that the retailers cannot be trusted to regulate their own safety standards.
Others claim that the responsibility for this disaster lies with the Bangladeshi government for not upholding building codes.
