Annual Dyke March hits Toronto streets

The annual Dyke March takes over city streets on Saturday, June 29, 2013.

TORONTO – It began with the rumble of motorcycles — the annual Dyke March hit city streets Saturday.

Women and trans people in the LGBTQ community took over city streets for the march.

The event is not a parade, its organizers say. The event serves as a political demonstration to defy stereotypes and celebrate the strength and diversity of LGBTQ women and trans people.

The march began at 2 p.m.

As Pride festivities take over downtown, city streets will be filled with rainbow flags and smiles.

The massive Pride parade begins Sunday at 2 p.m. and is expected to draw one million to the city.
