Barrie man faces weapons charges in Project Traveller investigation

BARRIE, Ont. – Toronto police have made another arrest in the year-long Project Traveller investigation.

Paul Smith−Bonnick, 21, of Barrie, was charged Tuesday with weapons-related offences including trafficking in restricted weapons and unauthorized possession of a firearm.

Project Traveller targeted alleged members of the street gang Dixon City Bloods or Dixon Goonies. Police allege the accused were involved in gun smuggling and drug trafficking.

Officers in tactical gear carried out a series of early-morning raids June 13 targeting suspected drug and gun traffickers, making 28 arrests — 19 in Toronto and nine in Windsor.

Police say the investigation is ongoing.

Nearly 50 people have been arrested and are facing a slew of charges related to guns, drugs and gang activity.

Police released a list of people charged in the sweep Monday. A full list of those charged is available here.
