Pet dog wakes family as fire in Brampton leaves three homes gutted

BRAMPTON, Ont. – The barking of a pet dog may have saved a family in a fire that will end up being at least a million-dollar blaze.

The two-alarm fire started around 2:30 a.m. Sunday in Brampton on Willow Park Drive, near Bramalea Road and Bovaird Drive.

Nearby neighbours say they woke to the sounds of the fire crackling and then saw massive flames spreading from one house to two others.

Little was left of two of the three homes effected, with one house being destroyed completely with only the frame remaining.

At another home, that was left buckled and without a roof, the family dog’s barking may have been a life-saver.

“We were sleeping and we hear the dog bark like crazy, it woke us up and we saw the room light up, we looked across and saw a fire,” the father, Tang, said.

That family managed to save their dog and escape with only the clothes on their back.

The house where the fire started was under renovation, according to neighbours, who say it was also the scene of a fire last year.

No injuries have been reported and there’s no word yet on what caused the fire.

Fire officials are still investigating.
