Man, 44, charged after Durham police helicopter hit by laser during flight

A 44-year-old Oshawa man is facing charges after police say one of their helicopters was zapped with a laser mid-flight.

Police say their Air-1 chopper was hit by a laser several times Friday morning while on patrol above Oshawa.

Officers were able to track the laser light to a parking lot in the area where the suspect was arrested.

The suspect is charged with assault with a weapon, mischief endangering life, common nuisance and obstructing police.

Officials say flashing a laser pointer at a helicopter is not only illegal, but extremely dangerous and can lead to injury or death.
