Whitby man posing as photographer faces child luring charges

A Whitby man posing as a photographer and modeling agent online is facing child luring charges.

The charges follow a four-month investigation by the Durham Regional Police’s Internet child exploitation unit.

Officers posed as a 14-year-old girl online and arranged to meet the suspect at a Whitby bus stop.

Police arrested him on Thursday as he was walking to the bus stop.

A computer was seized from the man’s home.

Kyle McLauchlan, 50, is charged with five counts of luring.

Police said he has ties to the Kitchener area, but also may have been trying to contact young people in Nova Scotia, British Columbia, Hamilton and Sudbury, along with Durham Region.

One of his online handles was “photoguy.”
