SIU investigating Hamilton death

Ontario’s police watchdog is probing the death of a 45-year-old man in Hamilton.

The Special Investigations Unit said the man died Friday morning in an incident that involved Hamilton police.

The call came in just after 9 a.m., Hamilton police told CityNews.

The man was wandering on Lincoln Alexander Parkway, against traffic, near the Upper Wentworth Street, the SIU said.

Police told the man to get off the road and he did, heading to a wooded area, with officers close behind. The man was shot multiple times and later died, the SIU said.

The SIU has assigned six investigators and three forensic investigators to the case.

Upper Wentworth was closed from the parkway to Stone Church Road for the investigation, police said.
