CP freight train derails near Sudbury after bridge collapses, leaving cars in river

Several cars from a Canadian Pacific train have plunged into a river near Sudbury after a trestle bridge collapsed.

Ontario Provincial Police say the cars have fallen into the Wahnapitae River.

Sgt. Jean-Marc St. Jacques says no injuries have been reported so far and it’s not known if anything from the cars has spilled into the river.

Residents who draw water from the river are being warned not to consume it until it’s deemed safe.

Motorists are being asked to find a detour around the area as Highway 537 is closed in the region.
