Central Ontario storm leaves over 3,000 customers without power

TORONTO – More than 3,000 Ontario Hydro customers in central Ontario spent the night without electricity after a powerful storm ripped through the area Tuesday night.

A line of severe thunderstorms brought damaging winds, hail and heavy rain to the area, snapping branches and flooding some roads.

Hail was reported in Orangeville and Stouffville, while six vehicles were hit by falling hydro poles near Alliston.

An Environment Canada crew will be heading out to Fenelon Falls, Thursday, to determine if a tornado brought down a barn.

There were no injuries associated with the storm.

Ontario Hydro expects repairs in the affected areas from cottage country north of Toronto east through the Bobcaygeon area to be completed by Wednesday evening.
