Fatal shooting in Orlando linked to Boston bombings case: reports

A fatal FBI shooting in Orlando Wednesday appears to be connected to the Boston Marathon bombings investigation.

According to CBS News, the man shot was being investigated for alleged links to Boston bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev.

The shooting happened early Wednesday morning near Universal Studios.

The man was being questioned by authorities when he initiated a violent confrontation. In a statement, FBI spokesman Paul Bresson said the FBI agent acted on an imminent threat and shot the interview subject.

The man and the FBI agent were transported to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The man later died.

According to USA Today, a friend of the victim has told media the victim is 27-year-old Ibragim Todashev, an ethnic Chechan like Tsarnaev.

The newspaper reported the man shot had been reportedly questioned for three hours by the FBI on Tuesday about his link to Tsarnaev.

The Orlando Sentinel reported Todashev and Tsaranev knew each other from boxing and mixed martial arts.

The victim reportedly lived in Boston and had spoken to Tsaranev about a week before the Boston Marathon bombings.

Tsarnaev, 26, was killed in a shootout with Boston police in the days following the bombings. His younger brother, Dzhokhar, 19, remains in custody.

Three people were killed and 275 others were injured in the bombings.
