TORONTO – The election question remains a legitimate one at Queen’s Park.
The New Democrats want the Liberal government to drop plans announced in the provincial budget to add tolls to existing high-occupancy vehicle lanes, at least until it closes corporate tax loopholes.
“We don’t want to see new taxes, new tolls; we don’t want to see more burden on everyday families. Well, other sectors of the province are able to continue to get big breaks and more tax loopholes,” NDP Leader Andrea Horwath said.
Horwath said the Liberals’ plan to build more HOV lanes and set some up as toll lanes for single drivers, without knowing what it will cost and with no clear idea on possible revenue.
However, she has refused to say whether she’ll vote down the budget if her list of demands aren’t met.
She said she’s expecting to meet with Premier Kathleen Wynne sometime this week.
