Mother’s Day is celebrated in almost 50 countries around the world, however it is celebrated differently and at different times depending where you live.
In some countries it is celebrated on different days in May, while others celebrate it at entirely different times of the year, like August in India and December in Spain.
You may be among the 122.5 milion people calling up mom to wish her a Happy Mother’s Day. Hopefully, however, you’re not among the three per cent of people who have to place that call collect.
Nearly two-thirds of us will buy mom flowers or plants, with carnations being the flower most often associated with the special day.
Just over half meanwhile will take mom out for dinner or brunch, with jewellery, gift cards and clothing also popular gift choices.
Overall, we’ll spend an average of $128 dollars on mom for the day, with men expected to spend slightly more on average.
The earliest Mother’s Day celebrations can be traced back to the spring celebrations in Ancient Greece in Honour of Rhea, believed to be the mother of the Ancient Greek Gods.
