Suspect arrested in Burlington, Oakville break-ins, second suspect sought

A 31-year-old man is facing a string of charges following a series of break-and-enters in Burlington and Oakville.

Halton Regional Police say the Appleby Opticals at 2180 Itabashi Way in Burlington had its front door smashed and an undisclosed amount of glasses frames were stolen.

Around 2:20 a.m., police say the Walkers Medical Centre at 1821 Walkers Line in Burlington was broken into and an undisclosed quantity of medicinal items were stolen.

About 15 minutes later, police say the Bell Store at 2475 Appleby Line in Burlington had its front door smashed and an undisclosed amount of cash was stolen.

Police say a fourth break-and-enter occurred at a Telus Mobility Store at 2501 Third Line in Oakville around 2:45 a.m. Police said tools and cash were taken.

Police say a Halton officer came across the incident and “an interaction” took place between the officer and multiple suspects.

Police allege the suspects drove their vehicle toward the officer, colliding with the cruiser.

The officer fired his gun in response, police said.

There were no injuries.

A 25-year-old female was arrested at the scene but has since been released unconditionally, police said.

Two other suspects fled on foot.

Police recovered the vehicle allegedly used by the suspects at the scene. Police say it was reported stolen from Oakville in April.

Police arrested Jonathan Marucio, 31, of Mississauga in Peel Region and say he is a suspect in at least two prior break-ins in Oakville on April 25.

He is charged with six counts of break, enter and theft, two counts of theft of a motor vehicle, two counts of breach of recognizance, two counts of wearing a disguise while committing an offence, possession of stolen property under $5,000 and possession of break-and-enter tools.

Police are also seeking Jesse Rigo, 21, of Mississauga in connection with the early Friday break-ins.
