Walk to support MS cure and research held in nation’s capital

OTTAWA, Ont. – The Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada’s Ottawa chapter hosted a run and walk in the nation’s capital to help raise money for MS research Sunday.

The event, starting from Tunney’s Pasture, included various walk routes ranging from 2.5 km to 10 km, while the runs were 5 km and 10 km.

Money raised from the event will go toward research on MS treatment and cures.

Many of the participants were dressed in red-and-white as they warmed up for their walk or run.

One girl named Sarah was there with her mom and sisters, wearing a t-shirt that indicated she was walking for her sister, who was diagnosed with MS in September.

“It means coming out and supporting her, and the struggle she has to deal with. We’re here for her really with anything she needs,” Sarah said.

“When she gives herself her shot it’s hard on the whole family, so us coming out and just being here supporting her.”

The MS Society hopes to raise $320,000 for local services and MS research.
