Funeral held for 29-year-old victim of Boston Marathon bombing

A private funeral for 29-year-old Boston Marathon bombing victim Krystle Campbell was held in her home town on Monday.

Members of the Teamsters Union, who are there to provide security of sorts, attended the funeral.

This after the Westboro Baptist Church had threatened to picket the funeral.

Campbell’s mother spoke before the funeral, expressing the pain of her loss.

“We are heartbroken, she was a wonderful person, everybody that knew her loved her,” Campbell said in-between sobs.

Meanwhile, a memorial service will be held at Boston University for the 23-year-old student from China who was studying at the school.

The two are among the three who died during the deadly bombings at the Boston Marathon. The living suspect is currently being treated at hospital after suffering a wound to his neck.

An MIT police officer was also shot later by the pair of brothers, the older who is dead, believed to have been responsible for the bombing.

Investigators say the wounded brother is only now well enough to begin communicating with them in writing, with officials saying the wounds to his throat make him unable to currently speak.

Also in Boston, a city-wide pause was held at 2:50 p.m. at the mayor’s request.

Here in Toronto victims were honoured on Sunday at the Yonge Street 10K, where runners held a moment of silence and wore special bibs to show solidarity.

“Everyone who runs is happy, jubilant, supports everyone else, and for that sort of thing to happen it’s really devastating,” one runner said.

Runners will continue their solidarity here in Toronto on Monday as well, with Boston Strong TO hosting a tribute run event at 6:30 p.m. in High Park.

That event will start at the Grenadier Restaurant in High Park.

There were also marathons held in London, England and Vancouver Sunday, with no security issues reported.
