Ontario public high school teachers to vote on contract changes by April 18

An ongoing labour dispute between Ontario high school teachers and the minority Liberal government came a crucial step closer to an amicable end on Thursday, after union bargaining heads voted 96 per cent in favour of a tentative deal struck late last month.

The Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation (OSSTF) says teachers will vote on the contract changes by April 18.

Full details of the agreement weren’t released, but sources told The Canadian Press that younger high school teachers will be given a much better payout for their banked sick days under the agreement.

Last week, the union stopped advising its teachers to boycott extracurricular activities — a protest against Bill 115, which imposed contracts on its members.

The Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation reached a tentative agreement with the government last weekend.
