Two TTC employees face 30 charges in alleged fare thefts

TORONTO, Ont. – Two TTC employees are facing a total of 30 charges in a theft investigation.

Between January and March, Toronto police and investigators with the TTC were examining suspicious transactions between the public and TTC workers, police said.

Police allege during this time a TTC fare collector took money from transit riders but did not turn the money over to the TTC.

Krishna Rajkumar, 47, of Markham, was arrested Wednesday and charged with eight counts of theft under $5,000 and eight counts of failing to collect fares.

A second fare collector is also accused of not turning over money to the TTC, police said.

Police allege the accused did not turn over money collected between October 2012 and March of this year.

Paul Vardy, 56, of Pickering, was arrested and charged with seven counts of theft under $5,000 and seven counts of failing to collect fares.

The accused are scheduled to appear in court on May 9.
