Liberal leadership race not a done deal, Rae says

Interim Liberal Leader Bob Rae is trying to stay positive about the Liberal leadership race even though it looks like Justin Trudeau is coasting to victory.

This week, the second place Marc Garneau dropped out of the race, revealing his internal polling numbers that show 72 per cent of Liberals are backing Trudeau.

Garneau says the party has already decided, so he quit to endorse the front runner.

But Rae tells the Regina Leader-Post he doesn’t believe the competition is over, saying this is still a race and there are other candidates campaigning.

He adds there is a lot of excitement about the decision, pointing out nearly 300,000 people signed up as members and supporters to choose the next leader.

Voting begins following a national showcase of the candidates in Toronto on April 6.

The new leader will be announced at an event in Ottawa on April 14.
