Federal Liberal candidates in Halifax for second-last debate before leader chosen

The eight candidates vying for the leadership of the federal Liberal party meet today in Halifax for the fourth of their five scheduled debates.

Justin Trudeau started the race as the perceived front-runner and has managed to maintain that status as the contenders head down the stretch.

A final debate is scheduled for Mar. 23 in Montreal before the Liberals chose their new leader on April 14.

The race became slightly less crowded last week when Toronto lawyer and admitted dark horse candidate George Takach dropped out and threw his support to Trudeau.

Today is also the deadline for the remaining contenders to sign up new supporters for the Liberal party, and for their candidacies.
