Five suspects charged after Vaughan home invasion

VAUGHAN, Ont. – Five suspects, including a young offender, have been charged following a midday home invasion and abduction in Vaughan Wednesday that sparked a dramatic takedown.

The pursuit began after York Region police were called at around 11 a.m. for a home invasion at a Solway Avenue residence near Keele Street and Major Mackenzie Drive.

Police say four suspects — two armed with handguns — entered the residence and confronted a 34-year-old man and 20-year-old woman.

Police say the man was assaulted, bound and placed into a vehicle driven by a fifth suspect. When officers arrived, the suspects took off in a silver sedan.

Police stopped the sedan at Wilson Avenue and Jane Street outside Sheridan Mall, where three suspects were arrested, police say.

However, two suspects fled on foot. One suspect was arrested inside the mall and the second was located in a garbage chute at a nearby apartment complex.

The victim is safe.

Raymond Saah, 24, of Brampton, Derrick Osei, 21, of no fixed address, Davonie Senior, 21, of Toronto, Tervil Brown, 24, also of Toronto and a 17-year-old Vaughan youth face a string of charges including robbery with a firearm, kidnapping using a firearm, forcible confinement and assault with a weapon.

Two nearby schools — Chalkfarm and St. Gerard Majella — were put under hold and secure while police investigated.

The hold and secure procedures were lifted shortly after 1 p.m. Wednesday.
