TTC reached record 514 million rides last year

TORONTO, Ont. – The TTC carried a record 514 million rides in 2012, exceeding its own projections.

TTC spokesman Brad Ross say the transit system is anticipated to carry 528 million rides this year.

The TTC is preparing to meet the demand by hiring more drivers and increasing service on streets, Ross said.

Ross said it is good news for the TTC when ridership continues to grow.

He attributed the increase to the high cost of driving and with people choosing to live downtown where there is greater access to the subway.
