Delta Hotels parts ways with Toronto’s largest hotel, Delta Chelsea in July

TORONTO, Ont. – Delta Hotels and Resorts says it’s parting ways with Toronto’s downtown Delta Chelsea hotel, which claims the title of Canada’s largest hotel.

The national hotel chain says the move is a strategic decision because the owners of the Delta Chelsea, Great Eagle Holding Ltd. has said it will not renovate the property in line with the company’s new brand standards.

The company is rebranding its properties as more upscale, four star hotels.

It says it will no longer be managing the property effective July 1.

Hong Kong-based Great Eagle says the landmark hotel, which will be rebranded as The Chelsea Toronto, has recently undergone a multimillion-dollar renovation.

Delta is building a new 45-storey flagship hotel in downtown Toronto and it’s projected to open in late 2014.
