Deal with high school teachers reached, more elementary ones take strike action

TORONTO – Tentative deals have been reached between high school teachers and eight school boards, but more elementary teachers are starting strike action.
    
The union representing English public high school teachers says another deal with the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board was reached early this morning.
    
But only two – Upper Grand School District School Board and York Region _ have been approved by the government.
   
Hamilton-Wentworth, Thames Valley, Niagara District, Avon-Maitland and Durham school boards are still waiting for the green light.
    
At the same time, more elementary teachers are set to take strike action.
    
Teachers at the Rainy River District School Board are in a legal strike position, and those at Trillium Lakelands District School Board are poised to join them on Friday.
