Raptors to be part of NBA history Saturday night in Brooklyn

The Toronto Raptors will join NBA history Saturday night, as they square-off against the Brooklyn Nets in the first ever regular-season game at the Barclays Center.

The Raptors will hope to play spoiler as the Nets open their regular season and play for the first time at the brand new Barclays Center.

It will also mark the first ever game for the newly-minted Brooklyn Nets, who moved from New Jersey at the end of last season.

The Barclays Center, which officially opened to the public on September 21, is a multi-purpose arena that will host the Nets along with concerts and other events.

It has also been confirmed that the New York Islanders of the NHL will move to the Barclays Center in 2015.

The Center held its first concert on September 28 when New York rapper and Nets part-owner Jay Z performed.

The Nets were originally scheduled to play their first game in Brooklyn on November 1, but that game was delayed due to Hurricane Sandy.

They’ll now get to face the Raptors, who are hoping some new faces can help them improve on last season’s win total.

Point guard Kyle Lowry has been added and has so far made a large impact on the team, bringing toughness, grit and the ability to create his own shot.

Lithuanian big-man Jonas Valanciunas has been impressive thus far, playing with hustle and showing the ability to snag rebounds, something the Raptors desperately need.

New draft pick Terrence Ross has played limited minutes and has been yet to have a major impact on the squad, while returning players like DeMar DeRozan and Andrea Bargnani have been solid so far.

The Raptors are currently 0-1 after dropping their season opener to the Indiana Pacers.
