OTTAWA – Documents show the federal government compensated 144 downtown Toronto businesses for lost revenue in June of 2010, when the city hosted the G-20 summit.
And, among the businesses getting compensation was a strip club.
In total, the government paid more than 1.5-million dollars to the businesses, including the Zanzibar Tavern, which got almost 59-hundred dollars.
Among the cheeky messages on the strip club’s marquee during the summit was “Forget G-20 — try G-strings.”
During the summit, there was a security zone that featured chain-link fence and thousands of police officers.
The zone covered several blocks, and had the look and feel of an armed camp.
Outside the security zone, there was a riot that saw more than 11-hundred people taken into custody.
Many shops and vehicles were damaged.
