Health Canada recalls face paint set for high levels of lead

Health Canada has recalled a face paint set that contains 10 crayons because it contains high levels of lead that can be inadvertently ingested when used near the mouth, the agency said.

“The use of the product on the face near the mouth can result in the product being accidentally ingested and cause harmful levels of lead to accumulate in the body,” Health Canada said.

“Excessive levels of lead can lead to serious health problems.”

The item number is HA1056 and the universal product code (UPC) 064049440562 is located at the back of the package.

Approximately 4,858 of the recalled face paint sets were sold in Canada between January 2010 and October 2012.

There have been no reports of illnesses related to the product, the agency said.

The product was manufactured in China and distributed by Montreal-based Handee Products Inc.
