No criminal charges to be laid against Peel officers

Criminal charges will not be laid against five Peel Regional Police officers in connection with their conduct during a drug sting in 2009.

The finding comes from an investigation by the province’s Ministry of the Attorney General.

Two Mississauga men were charged with several drug-related offences.

The judge “brought into question” the evidence given by five officers during the preliminary hearing the contents were under a publication ban.

One suspect plead guilty to the charges on Wednesday, while charges against the second suspect were stayed.

New Peel Regional Police Chief Jennifer Evans has requested the ministry review any possible allegations of misconduct under the Police Services Act.
